Improving the 36th Parallel is a street sign that will fold the map and transpose various locations from central United States onto their equivalent, parallel locations on Elm Street in Greensboro. In doing so, we hope to illustrate the connectedness of our lives, lives that while separated by geography, share surprising parallels.

Cedar Lorca Nordbye and Karen Carlson are Memphis-based artists working across disciplines of performance, installation, writing, and printmaking to address topics of conflict, idea construction, language, arguments, geography, and the interrelationships between seemingly unrelated things. Past works have been shown in a line of locations along the 35th parallel.
