10,000 Flowers for Willie Grimes is an installation honoring the memory of this NCAT student whose death brought international attention to the racial instability of Greensboro in 1969. Utilizing discarded graveyard flowers collected over the course of 10 months, this “flower field” is arranged in a traditional asymmetrical African quilt pattern. Long having worked in the theme of civil rights, Terry S. Hardy’s sculpture “Monument” is currently in “The 1961 Freedom Riders” exhibition at Montgomery’s Historic Bus Station through May 2014 and is a part of their permanent collection.
