The Big Head Brigade, under the Direction of Megan Marlatt, is a collective of artists, (Genevieve Campbell, Sarah Hand, Danielle Loleng, Megan Marlatt, Edward Miller, Andrea Parra and Bill Bennett,) who create, wear and perform in Big Heads, inspired and derived from the Spanish folk art tradition of “capgrossos”, (or big heads.) Please look for us marching on Greensboro in strange number cadences. We will march 1 by 1, 2 by 2, and 3 by 3, up and down Elm Street.
Artist Info
Megan Marlatt’s artwork took her to Spain, where she met artists Ventura and Hosta who taught her how to make Big Heads. Megan invited them to teach Big Head workshops at the Visual Arts Center in Richmond, (where Sarah Hand teaches), and the University of Virginia (where she, Bill Bennett and Ed Miller teach). Genevieve Campbell, Danielle Loleng and Andrea Parra are her students there
