An homage to the Orlando shootings, this installation is based on Baya Weaverbird nests – anthropomorphic structures that resemble gendered human anatomy. Their design provides safety from predators as well as a space for nurturing. The LGBT community felt safe to be themselves at Pulse. The young people who attended Pulse that evening were at PLAY, “engaged in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose.” The nests are crocheted in a rainbow of colors and imbued with the power of the domestic space.
