This Saturday, May 18th, Art in Odd Places (AiOP) will be having an open call for their 2019 festival, INVISIBLE. Described as “Ethereal. Imperceptible. Intangible. Vaporous.” this year’s festival looks to engage artists over the age of 60 to “celebrate the indomitable spirit…of those undaunted by the passage of time.” To keep with the idea of invisible, calls for submissions will literally be phone calls this Saturday (number below), so that artists can remain “unseen” during the selection process. This year’s festival is curated by LuLu LoLo, a “playwright, performer, and born-and-bred New Yorker” and longtime AiOP contributor. Below is more information on the festival and how to apply. ART IN ODD PLACES (AiOP) 2019: INVISIBLE scheduled for October 17-20 curated by LuLu LoLo invites proposals for its fifteenth annual public art and performance festival taking place along 14th Street in Manhattan, NY – from Avenue C to the Hudson River.
Art in Odd Places 2019: INVISIBLE seeks imaginative proposals by artists who are sixty years old and older including various forms of intergenerational collaboration that actively engage the public.
In line with the concept INVISIBLE, artists are asked to remain unseen and only heard in their telephone call application.
Artists may propose one idea from two different options:
1) An individual performance or visual artwork in an odd place on 14th Street.
2) Participation in the Promenade of Visual Flâneurs parading the length of 14th Street on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 by the older artist or their proxy.
