In this interactive performance, the artist exchanges handcrafted art-tokens of her metaphorical weapons for representations of participants’ weapons. Some of these tokens are squirt guns, demonstrating how one may be attached to weapons, but they are not necessarily dangerous, or even effective. The artist was initially motivated to create Exchange after experiencing a bullet narrowly missing her husband’s head while hiking in wilds of the west. She became interested in an expanded notion of weaponry, including words, deeds, and objects she personally uses offensively and defensively.
